It has long been the target of scorn and criticism from Central Ohio residents, state officials, and even national media, becoming known as a notorious speed trap by the 1990s for its corrupt local government as well. New Rome, Ohio New Rome is a village located in Franklin County, Ohio, on the west side of Columbus, where it occupies little more than a three-block stretch of Broad Street (U.S. Highway 40). The 60-resident village had as many as 14 policemen, with the Village Council wanting more.
